may 30 - UNIVERS ZERO
1st part : METROPOLIS
1. Intercalaire [D.Denis] (4:30)
2. Présage [D.Denis] (12:38)
3. Warrior [A.Kirk] (14:36)
4. Before The Heat [A.Kirk] (5:26)
5. Les Kobolds [D.Denis] (4:30)
6. Xenantaya [D.Denis] (15:17)
7. Soubresauts [D.Denis] (10:43)
8. Le Bal Des Martyrs [M.Berckmans] (6:57)
9. The Funeral Plain [A.Kirk] (23:02)
10. Dense [D.Denis] (16:30)
11. Toujours Plus A L'est [D.Denis] (7:00)

Wednesday evening, I saw for the first time UNIVERS ZERO on stage and was blown up. The show lasted at least 2 hours with two encores (including Toujours Plus A L'Est). Unfortunately, I was a little bit tired and wasn't at 100% in the trip. However, the show was really great. *

First part was taken by METROPOLIS which is Daniel Denis's Son's Band. Not very good. The members are still very young and this was their second show. You could feel their fear of being on stage.

may 31 - ONE SHOT (magma members)
Set 1
1. Riff Fantom [P.Bussonnet] (12:39)
2. I Had A Dream (Parts III & IV) [E.Borghi] (15:02)
3. Blue Bug [P.Bussonnet] (14:33)
4. M.D.M. [E.Borghi] (11:10)

Set 2
1. Ewaz Vader [P.Bussonnet] (10:54)
2. In A Wild Way [E.Borghi] (13:56)
3. Missing Imperator [J.MacGaw] (12:32)
4. Urm [P.Bussonnet] (11:37)
5. Monsieur G [D.Jeand'heur] (7:39)

Maybe the best show I ever witnessed. 3 Members from Magma (James McGaw on guitar, Philippe Buissonet on bass and Emmanuel Borghi on bass) and Daniel Jeand'heur on drums with whom McGaw had already worked with on the PIENZA project.

Marvellous.

Jeand'heur has become my favourite drummer instead of Robert Wyatt (that's nothing less I have to say about him !)

Those who haven't seen them on stage should be careful not to miss them if they have the possibility to go to their concerts.*

* : On Dime A Dozen, there is a link to download both of those shows (and maybe, surely, the others to come). I don't know if I have the permission to give that link but I really advise you to go there. These are really good audience recording.

jun 6 - VROOOM ! (king crimson covers) + DESACCORDES

 Shocked

Wednesday evening, A show from two Bands from Bordeaux, France.

One thing we can say of that city is that it musn't be known only for its wine.

The first band, VROOM, came finally at the second part of the show, but unfortunately, even if the show was really great, it had the inconvenient to follow the show of Désaccordes, which's now names d-ZakØrd.

Indeed, D-ZakØrd was so huge that nothing could follow after that.
I didn't know a thing about them before that night but that was really MY discover of 2007... Arriving there, I found some friends who told me they were now really known for there reworking on Terry Riley's 'InC'. Funny Coincidence, I just borrowed that CD on my mediatheque... So, when I heard they were now touring with Magma/Top's La Musique des Spheres/De Futura, I couldn't help waiting to hear them.

ONE hour of De Futura later, I was on heaven, nothinhg else could make me come back down to Earth...

Really amazing : their official website : http://desaccordes.free.fr/ (with extracts and poor quality videos)

on one other hand, VROOM was not bad at all, but after the monument, that wasn't easy to impress anyone. That band, fronted by a genre of Alvin Lee, makes covers from King Crimson (70s and 80s songs form KC) The show was really great, making Fripp's music much younger and powerfull because much more in a Rock way.

Those shows from VROOM and D-ZakØrd will be issued on DVD

(to be continued...)

jun 8 - HOPPER / ALLEN / CUTLER "BRAINVILLE 3"

setlist :

Set 1
1. Hopper/Cutler duo improv (11:18)
2. Brainville (6:07)
3. F# Drone (8:21)
4. Headline (13:22)
5. Dedicated To You, But You Weren't Listening (6:30)
5. Hours Gone (12:33)

set2
1. Hope For Happiness (18:36)
2. Who's Afraid ? (7:12)
3. Dynamite (11:44)

Encores
4. Ocean Mother (12:58)
5. "Bullshit" (9:49)

Difficult to understand that music. Very adventurous and iconoclast music. If you don't know the original gong and Soft Machine songs, you'll be a bit disturbed by the music, beginning with the nearly unlistenable improv duo at the beginning of the show. Maybe better than I thought, maybe wasn't I in a good mood...

PS : if you'd like to discover those concerts, just ask, I'll try to upload them as soon as possible...

jun 15-16 - MAGMA
1st part : ELULL NOOMI

Ellul Noomi : A lot boring : 6 persons A cappela, some kind of variety...  Undecided

Magma : A bit desappointed : Emehnteht rê began as an atomic bomb giving the best of its essence. Unfortunately, the second part of the title, new since last year, has not impressed me at all. A lot of filling in to last almost 1 hour. The end is too much repetitive... So, If I had to chosse a version of Emehnteht re, I would rather make a compilation of the first part from that night and the second part from any last year show...

two encores : Lihns, really nice and KA III which was urge beacaus Stella and Isabelle were not on stage at the beginning (wee wee ?)... So an improvisation between Bussonnet, McGaw, Vander and Borghi... That was so great !

Hi,

I'm just interested in the Brainville gig. I got the DVD from Planet Gong, but that contains only 50+ minutes of the concert.

With Hugh Hopper, now the 2nd original member of Brainville who died, on his last tour with Brainville before his now lost fight against leukemia started.

I'd be glad, if you could upload this!
