I thought it would be interessting to know witch progbands you don't like. I had the Idea because i've got the problem, that most of my friends are big (early) Genesis Fans, but I can't stand the voice of Peter Gabriel. For me it seems like Genesis can't rock really, its nice music but there aint no highlights (freakedout guitarsoli etc)So for me the most hated Progband is:
Genesis
and yours?
Greetings, bert

To me... those bands that some call prog but are truly not.
-> DT, Rush, Tool, Mars Volta....
And of course most Neo and Phil Collins

I am afraid genesis and the yes are bands in which people either like or hate but i like both. All musians are influenced by their heroes but generally find their own style eventually and everybody has their own taste in music and would rather write about bands that i like. Any music i dislike gets cast aside but respect goes to those creating music. Who knows which way their musical direction will take them.

Ha, good thread indeed. My list of crappy prog bands goes like this: DT, Flower Kings & all bands that tries to combine humour and prog (except for Samla Mammas Manna, that is).

why hating any music ? as Papa John Creach, I Like All Kinds Of Music and what I like not so much, will no waste time or thought about, only been ignored In case of Genesis I say at least after Peter Gabriel has left the rest had not only lost their singer, even be no longer a progband at all, but one over-average popgroup, not really interesting for me anymore

I think Dream Theater is Ok without James LaBrie, I really admire Myung because his bass technique is pretty astonishing. But between LTE (Liquid Tension Experiment) and Dream Theater, I'd rather choose LTE because I think that Tony Levin plays as twice as Myung (and Myung himself is admirable, Levin is a god)
P.D Forgive my lousy english...
