Hello people!

I'm entered in this forum nowadays...I'm Brazilian and I have a web radio program on www.solidrockradio.com.br , dedicated to progressive rock and hard rock from 70's (just only). Tomorrow, I'll make a special program about 1971.

I wrote a text about 1971, sorry for my english...it isn't good yet... (please, make the necessary corrections).

" Starting from the new roads that the rock proceeded at the end of the sixties to middles of the seventies (more specifically until his first half), several musical tendencies were born, they took form or even they died and they were transformed, leaving a precious legacy that still today echoes in the amplifiers of the contemporary music in the world.

The year of 1971 requires attention in the period, because it seems to be the inflection point of the rock in the transition of the sixties for the seventies (not only historically for this being the first year of the new decade, but for all the musical production). Inflection point for being the encounter of the last traces of the 60's sound school with the arrival and consolidation of the sound characteristic of the seventies. The league among what was happening and what was for coming, still in birth, it produced genuinely incredible albuns.

The heterogeneity of many disks of this year is fruit of this new-old aggregation, in a scenery of larger musical permissiveness and more free forms from understanding of the music rock, not only the continuation of patterns and clichés from the appearance of the style but, as an expression of the behavior and of the thought (or of no-thought) of those generation.

The musicians' technical progress and a certain "virtuous fever" that vineyard happening since the late 60's also appears in several albuns of that date, feeding, until today, uncultured people's critics and unpleasant nicks just as "drug-oriented music" and etc...

After having reached the "art" status and when it still stopped the largest flock inside of the young music, the rock trod a steep road of experimentation and daring that it took it also to a growing marginalization (or maybe, to a auto-marginalization), period this that the grimaces seem to see as an emptiness between the end of Beatles and the appearance of the punk movement.

The vital cycle of the tendencies that were in the top in 1971 was taking to the ripening progressively and doing with that they trod more previsible and defined roads starting from there. Several bands affirmed their identities and they lived his apex, many another passed as rocket, but they left, in that period, a musicality trace.

Sound's mosaics

Advancing a little the 70's sonority in their two first and heavy albuns, Led Zeppelin dipped bottom in the rustic sonority of the acustics instruments in "III" (1970). In 1971, the maximum work of the band, uniting that influence and still pointing directions. Larger comments are dispensable to the that great work, that contains the largest classic of the band and, that, by itself, it would summarize this text and the career of the band. With "Fireball", Deep Purple proved that his talent propitiated to go besides a strong and heavy rock; the same is said of "Who's Next" of Who, that same not following the conceptual line of opera-rock, but it innovated with the use of keyboards in varied compositions. Doors got rid a little of the stigma psychedelic-surreal and they ordered a good rock before Jim Morrison's departure. Inspiration to compose, to decompose and to mix didn't also lack for Ten Years After, Humble Pie, Rory Galagher, Grand Funk Railroad, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash in their delicious albuns of 1971.

The deflection of the progressive rock

1971 were the fundamentation in solid rock of the style. The largest bands of the gender released fundamental albuns on that year, true originality Bible, daring and artistic sense, to mention: "Nursery Crime" (Genesis), "Yes Album" (Yes), "Meddle" (Pink Floyd), "Pawn Hearts" (Van der Graaf Generator), "Acquiring the Taste" (Gentle Giant), "Trilogy" (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) and "Islands" (King Crimson).
The erudite's approach, the affair with the jazz, the exotic sounds and the themes that varied from the science fiction to the surrealism and the imaginary while it moved away the ear of many, it attracted dozens of other. In an interesting way, it is noticed the universe peculiar of each band, that same united later by a subjective categorization sense, they approached these way elements totally only.
New names appeared in the scenery - Focus, Egg, Gong, Gnidrolog, Mahavishnu Orchestra. This last one arrived opening the open road for Miles Davis and Frank Zappa (that also threw pearls on that same year) and already trodden by bands as Blood Swet and Tears, Chicago and Soft Machine, melting the rock with an aggressive approach of the jazz and of the funk, threshing virtuously his instruments. On the other side of the same coin, bands as Barclay James Harvast, Cressida and Caravan bet in well-aimed melodies.

A new vision of the psychedelic rock

Speaking in an orthodox and restricted way, the 60's rock psychedelic was already giving their last sighs. The great flags of the gender in America and in Europe they had already taken another direction or they had finished, especially because that denomination has more to see with a certain historical moment and a characteristic sonority than properly with a formatting musical. Starting from that we understand for psychedelia etymologically, the psychedelic rock still lived, however in new forms. In those new forms, there are a inconstetable legacy of the sixties era, especially in the scenery of German rock ("kraut-rock"), from where sprouted the roots of the electronic music. And without leaving of reminding that in outlying countries, as the one of the European East and of Latin America (that arrived a late little in the psychedelia) it was still made the typical "flower-power" sound.

Universal language

The early seventies was fertile in producing groups based in acoustic instruments => in 71, those white groups recorded pearls of soft melodies and bewitched harmonies. Fairport Convention, Fotheringay, Steeleye Span, Magna Carta, Broselmaschine and many others looked for in the European traditional music their inspiration and in the USA, the "folk-singers" looked for that inspiration in the "country-music."
Out of the Anglo-Saxon axis, a good harvest of bands appeared and it dove in the entropycal musical scenery of those days - in Italy, the movement grew up with bands as Osanna, Rovescio della Medaglia, Balleto di Bronzo, New Trolls and I Giganti; in Holland, they were appearing Focus, Golden Earring, Cuby and the Blizzards and Earth and Fire; in France, bands of music vanguard like Magma. Germany, barn of great bands, already made a lot of noise with bands as Eloy, Lucifer's Friend, Amon Düül II, Birth Control and Frumpy.

While in North America, the heavy sound of hard gushed of the amplifiers - James Gang, Mountain, Grand Funk, Cactus, Bang, Sir Lord Baltimore and Dust almost lived that simultaneously the peak of their careers - in the South, in spite of the heavy small boot of the military, a lot of good thing it got to "subvert" the system. In Argentina, the movement rock grew a lot in quality and popularity; in Mexico, in Chile, in Venezuela and in Brazil there was still who was in the psychedelic trolley walking through their possibilities and also traditional artists of these countries releasing great disks (independently of the  "rock" rotulation).

Finally, the production was vast and, just like good memory, it is rescued continually for who lived her or for who lately discovered it or still even for who same it produced it. This article didn't want to be a guide, a collection of the type "the top-10"... it was a simple thought manifestation, feelings and memoirs; a glance about a past reality that wants to be maintained is always favoring our minds.   "
