Dates
10 May 2007 Semi-final
12 May 2007 Final

The Eurovision Song Contest 2007 will be the 52nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held at the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland on May 10 (for the semi-final) and May 12 (for the final). The hosting broadcaster of the contest is YLE.

Finland earned the right to host the event thanks to the rock band Lordi winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 as Finland's representatives. The victory in Athens, Greece on the May 20, 2006 was Finland's first in their history of competing in the Eurovision Song Contest. It also meant that the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 will be the first Eurovision Song Contest to be arranged in Finland. The hosts of the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki are popular Finnish television personality Jaana Pelkonen and the Finnish musician, stage performer, and actor, Mikko Leppilampi.

The official logo of the contest remains the same with the flag in the centre of the heart being changed to the Finnish. The EBU and YLE announced that the theme for this years contest will be “True Fantasy”, which will embrace Finland and Finnishness in terms of the polarities associated with the country. [1] The design agency “Dog Design”, is responsible for the design of the theme that will show the many expressions and traits that are incorporated with Finland. The theme incorporates vibrant kaleidoscopic patterns formed from various symbols including exclamation marks and the letter "F".[2] On February 20, 2007 a reworked official website for the contest was launched marking the first public exhibition of this year's theme. An official CD and DVD will be released and a new introduction to Eurovision merchandise is a board game which mimics the contest in the process of creating and establishing an entry and then undergoing an interesting voting procedure in the games conclusion.

The Hartwall Areena, Finland's largest ice hockey arena, was always the favourite to be chosen to host the contest. The city of Helsinki has the best connections and facilities in the country, therefore allowing as many people as possible to experience the Eurovision Song Contest. A budget of €13 million was also presented for arranging the contest. Other bids to host the contest came from the other Finnish cities such as Espoo, Turku, and Tampere.

During the Heads of Delegation meeting in March 2006, it was announced that qualification for the 2007 final would change from previous years, so that only the top six placed countries from the 2006 final, along with the four largest financial contributors to the EBU (the Big Four) automatically qualified, with the remaining places being filled by the top fourteen placed countries from the 2007 semi-final. However, in a press conference just before the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, the EBU stated that these changes to the qualification system would not take place [3], meaning that fourteen countries (the top ten placed countries from the 2006 final and the Big Four) automatically qualifying for the final, and ten others qualifying from the semi-final.

The event will be sponsored by European communications group TeliaSonera, and - as with several previous contests - Nobel Biocare.

Final 2007-05-12
The participating countries of the final will be:

the four automatic qualifiers;
the top ten placed countries from the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 final
the top ten placed countries from the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 semi-final;
In the event of automatic qualifiers withdrawing before the contest, then their places will be given to the next best placed country (or countries) from the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest final. As the 2006 results stand, Turkey, having finished in eleventh place, would be first in line

As a Finn I vote my own country, of course!!! In fact, Idols-winner Hanna Pakarinen's 'Leave Me Alone' is not bad at all. It has catchy chorus, at least. I hope her good luck. Before Lordi Finns have been so lousy in these competitions - maybe the luck has turned now.

75 % of the music shared in PNF is worse than Hanna's 'Leave me alone' (Finland). Good work from former truck driver.

The Bulgarian song is very strong.
Elitsa has an impressive voice and sings in the traditional folk style. Stoyan is probably the best drummer in Bulgaria.
Their song is called "Voda" - it means Water.
I assure you, if you vote for the Bulgarians, you'll prove your good musical taste Smiley
